   FIRST PLACE YEP by  Great use of characters, movement, color and adding a Chinese flair to boot, but most importantly - teaching us something about myths. I don't think any of the judges including myself had any idea about the amazing Chinesse epic tale 'Journey to the West' before we saw this. Now a bunch of us are engrossed in reading this classic myth! The epic story of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, a troublemaking heavenly rebeller thrown out and locked into the monk's Xuánzàng's service by the Buddha. It was so perfect for Quenta, Fallaner and their own story that it was hard not to give credit to the thought put into finding such a perfect, epic and comedic story to tell. SECOND PLACE Shiva and Parvati by  Parvati's patience to be Shiva's consort was so epic that she spent years in penitence just to have him pay attention to her rather than sit in meditiation by himself. Finally after being harrassed by Shiva with tests and questions her utter patience and devotion inspired him to come back to the world of mortality and take her to his home. I'm sure Dae and Antha can relate in their own rivalry/romance with all their tip toeing around each other. The amount of detail is so startling! Just try not to get lost in all that movement. THIRD PLACE Love's Legend by  The story of Asmodeus and Gabriel is one of the most saddening and bittersweet of all the angels and demons and we felt these feelings were portrayed so perfectly in this entry. There is a definite atmosphere of melancholy, of loss, longing and love in all the amazing details. The composition is well-conceived; Gabriel's appearance underwater seems to perpetuate that while she is so close to Asmodeus, he can never truly have her. It is all too easy to see Sul and Lekmee here, and it was lovely to see their own angelic and demonic incarnations represented in such a beautiful way. |
